Book Review: Dead Cert by Dick Francis

I have always considered Dick Francis to be a cosy writer. Even in parts of his novels where the hero faces physical danger you always feel that you have a favourite uncle next to you to keep you safe. This is the first of the Dick Francis novels after he gave up being a steeplechase jockey.

Millionaire jockey Alan York uses the connections of Joe Nantwich a less than honest individual to track down the suspected murderers of another jockey Bill Davidson. York is ambushed by the thugs when he gets too close to the truth but he gets some vital clues from the encounter and he is on the way to solving the murder of Bill.

A great read as ever with Dick Francis and you will enjoy the ride. Quintessentially English and charming novels.

8/10 for me.
