Bill Bryson is an American who lives in England and has a pithy take on travel generally but a lot about England too. He has also written some interesting books about the origins of words. I enjoy reading his books but have a few still to read and I have not read some for quite some times.Bill Bryson website. And he is on Fantastic Fiction too.
But worth checking out particularly if you want to get the American's view on British life.
